Word Cloud Resources

Welcome to the CLMS Tech Blog from (Clark Lane Middle School, Waterford, CT)

I'm the Computer Fundamentals teacher at CLMS and will be providing technology resources for teachers to use. I'll also be providing information about how we, at CLMS are integrating technology into the core areas.

Word Cloud Resources:

Wordle is regarded by some as the "original" online word cloud generator. Wordle provides many options for color, shapes, and fonts for displaying your word clouds. Wordle increases the size of the word, if typed several times.  Wordle does not show numbers and stop words, like and, or. etc.

Tagxedo allows you to create a variety of designs for word clouds. You can enter the words directly into the cloud generator or enter a URL and it will generate a word cloud from the website. As you mouse over the words in the word cloud, the words become larger.  This program offers a many options.

Word It Out Word clouds can be customized by color scheme, font and size of the cloud.  Nice feature, allows you to ignore words, keeping them out of your word cloud. You can use a document, a sentence, url or table, You can even drag the corners to change the size of the word cloud.

ABCya! very simple word cloud generator. Similar to other word cloud generators you simply copy and paste chunks of text into the text box to have a word cloud created. Common words like "the" are automatically excluded from your word clouds. You can edit the font style, adjust color schemes, and flip the layout of your word clouds on the ABCya! Word Cloud Generator. The one shortcoming of the tool is that it doesn't provide embed codes. You can download and or print your word clouds.

Tagul free word cloud creator, where you can ignore words.  You need to sign up for an account in order to use this software. This is a little more difficult too use and has a lot of features available.  Tagul will create word clouds from urls but will also link each word in your cloud to a web page or a Google search.   Once your word cloud is created Tagul provides you with an embed code to put your cloud on your blog or website. This can be found on the CLMS technology webpage.
